Husted Addresses Ohio Constitutional Modernization Commission Re. Redistricting

congressionaldistrictsohioSecretary of State Jon Husted spoke to the Ohio Constitutional Modernization Commission concerning  changing the state’s process for drawing legislative and congressional districts.   According to a recent Plain Dealer Article, Nov. 14, 2013.

His [Husted’s] recommendations:

  • The apportionment board should be expanded from five to seven, so that at least two members of the minority party are included.
  • It’s actions should require approval from a supermajority that includes support from both Republicans and Democrats.
  • The districts it creates should be drawn with compactness and competitiveness in mind.
